解説（春の玉手箱）

　唐招提寺は、奈良にある律宗の総本山で七五九年に唐僧鑑真により創建された南都七大寺のひとつ。同寺金堂は奈良時代金堂の唯一の例である。
　この炉縁は金堂内陣の古材で作られたもので、「唐招提寺」の方形焼印が押されている。長老・北川智海師の箱書がある。

Toshodaiji is one of the seven great temples of Nara and was constructed in Nara in 759 by the Chinese monk Jianzhen as the head temple of the Ritsu sect of Buddhism. The Kondo of this temple is the only extant example of a Nara period Kondo.

This hearth edge was made from old wood taken from the inner structure of the Toshodaiji Kondo, and is branded with square brands that state "Toshodaiji." The box inscription was written by the shogunal advisor, Kitagawa Chikai.
